Coffee is for Closers

Friends, nobody has ever told me I have good taste in films, but I do.  So I’d like to share with you the movies you must watch if you’re in sales or business or just enjoy watching movies in general.

Glengarry_Glen_Ross

Number one is easy, Glengarry Glen Ross.  This is the godfather of all sales movies.  The iconic scene with Alec Baldwin is legendary.  Just this morning in our office somebody yelled, “Coffee’s for closers, only!” which I am, so it’s fine.  If you haven’t seen this yet, do. It’s full of great actors and it’s pretty much the benchmark of sales movies.

boilerroom

Number two, Boiler Room.  I like this movie, not my favorite of all-time but I can see why it’s a must see if you’re in this business.  Serious sales going on in this film and there are some great scenes with Ben Affleck.  That sounds like I’m kidding, but I’m not. You gotta see it.

wallstreet

Number three, Wall Street.  Nobody actually recommended this one to me, but it’s awesome! The 1980’s at their finest. It has Michael Douglas as a total badass and Charlie Sheen when he was still cool.  “Greed is good” and Gordon Gecko, are you kidding me?  If you haven’t seen Wall Street, I don’t even know what to say to you.

Number four: Tommy Boy.  Yep, I kid you not.  I’m a huge Chris Farley fan, and I love Tommy Boy.  The lessons he learns on the road as a salesman are classic.  As he puts it in one misguided attempt to be witty during a sale, “I could get a good look at T-bone by sticking my head up a butchers ass, but I’d rather take his word for it, but, wait, it’s got to be your ass.”  You’ll laugh at that later, watch it.

I know there’s a million more, but who has time to watch a million movies.  These are the ones I recommend, for what it’s worth.

“Have I got your attention now, good, cause we’re adding a little something to this months sales contest, as you all know first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado, anyone want to see second prize?  Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you’re fired, get the picture?” (Glengarry Glen Ross).

Don’t forget the bourbon.

Talk to you next week, Northern Colorado.  (That’s my tagline)
