Old Town Media Donates Website to Project Smile

Fort Collins (April 2, 2010)–In its continuing philanthropic support of tax-exempt organizations in Fort Collins, Old Town Media, Inc., has contributed a website and technical support to Project Smile, a volunteer group that provides free dental care to at-risk children in the Poudre School District.

About 675 PSD students—many attending Irish or Putnam schools—will receive the cost-free dental care during the 2009-2010 school year, according to Blair Trautwein, president of Project Smile’s board of directors.

Services range from providing toothpaste to performing oral surgery.

Project Smile also includes an educational component to teach children about oral hygiene. A startling number of Irish and Putnam students had never owned a toothbrush, let alone visited a dentist, prior to their involvement with Project Smile.

As with other health issues, dental problems and associated pain can seriously inhibit learning.

During the 2008-2009 school, 400 children were served, totaling about 750 visits to local volunteer dentists. The approximate value for all services and materials was $92,000.

Project Smile is a partnership of local citizens, dentists, businesses and the Health District of Northern Larimer County. The organization’s goal is to provide dental services to every child in PSD who would otherwise not have access to them.

In addition to Project Smile, Old Town Media has donated websites or significantly discounted rates to local organizations that include TEAM Fort Collins (website), Animal House (website) and Reflections for Youth, Inc. (discounts).
